  • Isn’t check-in just a status update to a non-human social object? I really see the idea of interacting with social objects a growing need. Not just locations, but also utilities such as checking in to applications, vending machines, posters (via QR Codes). The challenge with any of this from an advertisers persepctive in my opinion is the more people are worried about telling others where they are or what they are doing, the less they are listening and watching. So what is the net affect of the ad impression?

    I would tend to agree. So does the act of checking in now simply become a way to collect some sort of reward and be recognized by the brand for which you’ve checked in about? With a torrent of checkins from places and things, the stream will be largely ineffective – everyone talking, no one listening – so anyone using this tool will need to think thoroughly about what they want to achieve or it will become tired very quickly.

    Are we thinking about this too deeply already?
