You’ve got to be thinking that when the company whose API you leverage for your entire business buys a company to get into your business you may want to pack up and head for the hills. Not Tweetagora co-founders Mark Pavlidis and Brett MacLean, even if the company we are talking about is the venerable Twitter and the acquisition is the much-lauded Tweetie.
Why press on? Well, Tweetagora is built with a unique target market — the power Twitter user, not the average, first-time user that Twitter is hoping to attract with their own client. Mark and Brett focused their efforts on making their product a cut above in terms of design and usability but they realized a tighter focus on who their customer is was needed in order to succeed.
Mark and Brett are building a product that they would use and understand the need to differentiate in a busy market. Their story is great and worth a viewing or two.

About Mark Pavlidis

Mark makes software to solve problems. Notable creations include an ebook reader, a real-time timing analysis tool, and most recently a Twitter client named TweetAgora. Mark is also known to put out fires – literally – with his bare hands.
About Brett MacLean

Brett’s goal is to make software as simple to use as possible…but no simpler. After an 8 year stint working as an Interaction Designer for a Career Planning company, Brett decided that the best looking career plan was entrepreneurship. After a brief run at freelance web design he has now joined forces with Mark Pavlidis, creating iPhone & iPad apps that solve problems. Problem number one: solving the signal-to-noise problem on Twitter with a client called TweetAgora (coming shortly for the iPhone, and not-too-long-afterwards for the iPad)
