OnStar was founded in 1995, long before the mobile world took our pockets by storm. It is a service that pioneered some of the things we take for granted today. Now they have set their sites on mobile and the appification of the automobile.

Steve Schwinke, Director of Advanced Technology at OnStar opens up about the impact mobile is and will be having on the car experience and what this means for the industry.

About Steve Schwinke
OnStar: Why the future of the automobile starts on the dashboard   with Steve Schwinke, Director of Advanced TechnologySteve Schwinke is responsible for the design and development of mobile apps, smart grid, new service innovation and hardware platforms.

Schwinke began his career with OnStar in February 1997 as a Hardware Manager where he was responsible for the design and development of the first factory installed OnStar system. In 2000 he was promoted to Director of System Operations responsible for end to end system performance and management of the wireless carrier relationships. In 2007 Steve was appointed Director of Service Line Management overseeing all the OnStar service offerings and roadmap for future services. His expertise is in the area of wireless communications, antennas and GPS systems.

Prior to arriving at OnStar, Schwinke worked at Ford Motor Company from 1991-1997. He holds a Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering from Santa Clara University and a BSEE from the University of Michigan Ann Arbor.
