Welcome to Two Guys on Mobile. A weekly web show that focuses on the key stories that are driving our industry. Your hosts are Jeff Bacon and Rob Woodbridge – two mobile industry veterans who bring insight, perspective and expertise to the show each and every week.
Story No. 1
RIM made some big product announcements recently – and did it in Canada for the first time in recent memory – and we dive into the impact of these 5 products on their market share and company perception. Is this the start of a more aggressive company reflective of the new realities of their situation or is it expunging the last vestiges of the old RIM as we all wait for the new QNX-powered devices in 2012?
Story No. 2
Are we in a mobile bubble? I’m not sure we answer that question but we jump into the recent announcement from mobile app developer Instagram about the 7 million users, 150 million photo uploads and no inkling of a revenue model approach they are taking. Is this customer hoarding? When do they turn on the revenue? Does this lead to the perception of a bubble?
Story No. 3
This is something that shouldn’t surprise anyone in business today – developers are trying to engage more with existing customers for additional revenue as detailed in the latest IDC/Appcelerator report found here. Is this a sound strategy? We think so and here’s why.
All this and much much more – with a few detours of course.
