Location-based services are starting to play a relevant role in marketing around the world and as the number of services and the volume of users grow, so must the voice of the community grow with it and that’s where the Location-Based Marketing Association will be.
Headed up Asif Khan, a veteran in the sales and marketing world, the LBMA is launching to become the voice for nascent industry and, while its home-base is here in Canada, the aspirations are global.
I caught up with Asif about a week before the official launch of the association to talk about the industry as a whole and to understand why the LBMA is so important and what entrepreneurs, marketers and business types can expect from him and his group in the coming months.

About Asif Khan
Asif R. Khan is a veteran sales and business-development executive and entrepreneur with an outstanding track record in both the public and private sectors. Having recently completed an assignment as country manager for Vex Canada, one of the world leaders in WiFi, with operations in more than 35 countries, Asif is now focused on working as an independent consultant, speaker and venture capitalist to the location-based services community. In support of this, Asif has recently formed the Location Based Marketing Association a group dedicated to research and education in the space.
Prior to joining Vex Corporation, Asif held senior positions in Sales and Business Development at Octopz Inc., HelpCaster Technologies Inc. and Borderware Technologies where his responsibilities included international market development, securing strategic alliances and reseller agreements, and the creation of competitive intelligence programs and improved pricing models. Asif was a founding partner of Whodunet Inc., a network security and supply chain management business and has also held permanent and consulting positions at range of industry-leading organizations that include IBM, Oracle, Netcom, SAP, Royal Bank of Canada, and many others.
