Are we messing with Charles Darwin’s Theory of Evolution? Text-Neck and its impact on mobile users with Dr. Dean Fishman

We’ve all heard of thumb (originally BlackBerry thumb), and I’m guessing because you are involved in mobile that you’ve experienced cramps in your hands from excess smartphone use at some point in your life but have you really thought about the impact these devices are having on our posture and what that means for our long-term health?

No? Good thing Dr. Dean Fishman and his Text Neck Institute have your best interest in mind. Noticing an alarming trend in posture related instances in youth involving excessive strain on the spine from looking in a forward and downward position at any hand held mobile device. This type of pressure may cause headaches, neck pain, shoulder and arm pain, breathing compromise, and much more.

To combat this, Dr. Fishman is leveraging the very technology that is causing the condition with a mobile application that alarms you when you are putting too much strain on your spine. It’s innovative and important and entrepreneurial to boot!

Enjoy!

  • I think people bend forward to read books differently than they do to look at their cell phones. When you're texting you want a certain level of privacy so you keep your cell right in your lap. Reading a book you would hold it a bit higher.

That's true! The scary thing is that people spend more time texting than reading 🙂

  • This is a pretty cool app! 🙂 Kudos to him for taking his practice and knowledge to this platform 🙂
